Thursday 20th August
After a bit of a sleepless night, Tina kindly dropped us at the airport in the morning after staying with her the night before. We met Charlotte and Ollie who had already arrived and went straight to check in and drop our bags before going through security, for which we got fast tracked because of Lily – great!
We went and had some breakfast and then headed to the gate for boarding. We got settled on the plane with Lily on Beth’s lap using a cute baby extension seat belt. We took off and had a really good flight, just under a couple of hours.

We landed, picked up the bags and then went and got the double decker train to Uppsala. After the train we walked to our Airbnb. We then went straight back out to the supermarket to get some bits including dinner for this evening.
When we got back, we fed Lily her dinner and then Ollie made us delicious fajitas for dinner.
We put Lily to bed and then played the card game Cambio, which Charlotte and Ollie taught us – it was fun!
Friday 21st August
Lily had treated us to a good night’s sleep! When she woke up, she went for morning cuddles in bed with Auntie Charlotte and Uncle Ollie. We then had some breakfast that we had bought from the supermarket yesterday before getting ready to go out for the day to explore Upsalla. We walked along the river and then around the city, visiting the cathedral, the castle and the botanical gardens (shown in that order in the photos).

We then went for lunch at Creperie Avli. A recommendation from Mary. It was absolutely delicious!

We then walked to Mary and Erik’s flat, where they were hosting a pre wedding day afternoon Fika (the Swedish equivalent of afternoon tea/coffee and cake). They had baked some delicious treats for everyone. It was lovely to see Mary and her family after so long and also to meet her extended family and friends before the wedding.
We then got the bus back to town and took Lily back for bed. Charlotte and Ollie went out for some dinner together, and Harry ordered us a pizza to the house to have when Lily was asleep. When Charlotte and Ollie got home we played some more Cambio before bed – we were really enjoying the game and decided to do a tournament across the whole holiday – first to 100 loses.
Saturday 22nd August
After a not so good night, Lily woke us bright and early for the day!
Charlotte and Beth got ready and walked to a local bakery that had very good reviews to get some pastries and bread. We got there for when it opened at 8am and there was already a queue – a good sign!

We all then walked to Uppsala parkrun for 9:30, which was in a lovely park by the river. Harry walked around the park with Lily in her new carrier, which she seemed to enjoy, while Charlotte, Ollie and Beth did park run.

After we had done parkrun, we sat at the cafe in the park and ate our pastries from the bakery with a hot drink.

We then walked back home via the supermarket to get ready for the wedding and have a bite for lunch.
Once ready, we walked to the church for Mary and Erik’s wedding ceremony at 3:30. It was a lovely service – part English and part Swedish. And both Beth’s poem and Charlotte’s ring bearer duties went well!

After the service we walked through town to the botanical gardens where the reception was being held. We got an ice cream on our way!

There were drinks and nibbles at the reception outside in the gardens and then at 6:15 everyone was seated inside for the meal and speeches.

Harry and I had to head back to our accommodation to put Lily down to bed, so unfortunately we missed the food, but Harry made us dinner instead.
Once Lily was asleep, Harry stayed at home with her while Beth got a taxi back to the wedding for a bit longer, in time for the last few speeches and the cake! Beth then got a taxi back home again to get some sleep, leaving Charlotte and Ollie to do some dancing!
