LEJOG Day 8 – Saturday 1st June

We woke up at the Boot’s family house in Warrington and were treated to a wonderful breakfast before George and James drove us back up to Preston (where we had finished our ride yesterday) to start our ride today.

After saying our goodbyes, we headed straight through Preston and onward to Lancaster through some lovely quiet lanes near the coast.  Our bikes felt like they road beautifully after our friend James very kindly cleaned our bikes for us last night after our ride yesterday!

We found a lovely shop in a local village en route for some bananas to keep us going.

Shortly after eating the bananas, my phone got back into an old habit of jumping out my pocket and onto a bench… where I left it for a few km of cycling before realising. Luckily my knight in shining armour (Harry’s words not mine) rode back up a hill to retrieve it!

Once we made it to Lancaster (45km into the ride) we stumbled across an amazing vegan cafe called Pure Vegan for a yummy lunch stop.

We then got back on the road knowing that the weather was warming up and in 20km we would be in the south of the Lake District and WOW did it deliver.

We came to the Lakes on our minimoon and the weather was miserable for our entire trip. However today it was just incredible – it owed it to us! So many amazing views and we felt so fortunate to experience it. We travelled past Windermere, Grassmere, Buttermere and Derwent Water lakes.

After a few big hill climbs, stopping to take a lot of photos and an ice cream stop, we made it to the hotel in Keswick at about 7pm.

We quickly showered and then went out to re live one of our minimoon evenings with much better weather and had fish and chips in front of the lake.

We can’t actually believe how North we are and tomorrow, we hit SCOTLAND!

Summary:
Distance cycled: 134km
Elevation climbed: 1,174m
Time pedalling: 7 hours 4 minutes

Highlight of the day: The amazing scenery of the lake District and beautiful weather for it!

Lowlight of the day: Sore bum & hives

County count: 12 (Cumbria added to the list)
