Tuesday 10th September
We were up naturally early again this morning, by 6, because our body clocks still aren’t quite adjusted – but it’s allowing us to make the most of the mornings.
We walked down to a nearby cafe called Glory Juice Co. for smoothie bowls for breakfast – they were good!

We then popped back to the apartment to grab our bags and Charlotte picked us up in a hire car at 8am (we were going to spend the day with Charlotte while Hugo worked and then the evening with Hugo when Charlotte goes to work). She drove us just over half an hour to a place in North Vancouver called Deep Cove, which was a much smaller quaint town and very quiet and peaceful when we arrived – although Charlotte said it gets very busy in the summer.
We started off by doing a shortish hike up to Deep Cove lookout viewpoint. This took us about 45 mins to get up via many undulating stairs through the woodland.

We got to the top and climbed over the rock…

… To find a beautiful view of the sea and town below…

We then walked 30-45 minutes back down to the water front in the town.

The water was beautifully calm, so we decided to go kayaking for a couple of hours. Charlotte and I went in a double kayak together and Harry went in a single.

The scenery was beautiful and we spotted lots of wildlife, including jellyfish in the water and seals swimming in the water as well as sunbathing…

We kayaked out to a tiny island before turning round and heading back to shore.

We had worked up an appetite so walked to the town centre and had bagels for lunch at ‘Honey’ cafe. We then had to try one of their well known honey doughnuts recommended by Charlotte. They were so light and fluffy and delicious!

Charlotte then drove us back to hers and we sadly said our goodbyes to her. We walked back to our apartment to rest for a few hours before meeting Hugo for dinner.
After some chill time and a little nap for Harry we got ready for dinner and got the sky train to Broadway where Hugo had booked one of their favourite restaurants for dinner – La Mezcaleria (a mexican restaurant). It was just us two and Hugo for dinner because Charlotte had to work. We let Hugo order for us all as he knew the best things on the menu, so he ordered a few different bits for us all to share – tacos, enchiladas, burritos and tortillas!

The food was all delicious and we had some great chats. Post dinner we travelled most of the way back to the centre together and then said our goodbyes with big hugs to Hugo too.
We had had the best couple of days with Charlotte and Hugo – seriously lovely humans, and felt so lucky to have been eased into our Canadian trip by being able to see their friendly familiar faces and have them ‘show us the ropes’ and plan some lovely things for us to do. There is just so much you can do out here and it’s not possible to fit it all in, so knowing people who know first hand some of the best things to do has been so great. We will miss them on the rest of our trip, but onto the next part of our adventure!
