LEJOG Day 6 – Thursday 30th May

Hello again loyal blog fans, it is my (Harry’s) turn to write this one.

We will start with a few follow ups from the most popular parts of my last blog.

Undercarriage update: tender and deteriorating by the day. However, our strict skin care routine means it is significantly better than we thought it could be at this stage.

Beth’s nature wee update: the floodgates have opened and we are now averaging one a day with no additional passers by to date.

Onto the details of day 6. Today was a real mental and physical challenge. Each of the days so far have had a point in the day which was either challenging or had great views we were looking forward to E.g Cornwall hills, Dartmoor, Wye Valley… However, to be honest cycling through the West Midlands on relatively busy roads wasn’t too high on either of our cycling bucket lists (no offence to any west midland readers including family members!) Add to this some showers and a pretty brutal headwind (30mph+ gusts) for the vast majority of the journey meant it was even more challenging – but we got it done and remain married.

The most common wind in the UK is from the South West they said… you must start from Lands End they said… LIARS!

All of the above meant we have very few cycling photos from today, however we did start the day by visiting Beth’s Great Grandmas house in Worcester:

Then we randomly rode through Worcester race course which is situated on the river:

Then we had some leftover vegan sausages for a snack:

And we went down a very well kept driveway of sorts for a venue/sports centre:

However, the true highlight of the day was a lunch stop at a cafe called ‘On The Rabbit Run’, where we both had absolutely sensational fish fingers sandwiches and we were accompanied by a cute doggo.

We finally made it to our Glamping Pod at about 5pm where we had settled in and ordered a dominoes ahead of an early night.

Tomorrow, we become a peloton for the day as we meet our friends, the Boots, and we CANNOT wait!

We also just wanted to say another huge thank you to everyone for the generous donations and support we have received. Every day we receive texts from people saying they’re following the blog or wishing us well and it makes the world of difference… especially on days like today!

Summary:

Distance cycled: 100km

Elevation climbed: 1017m

Time pedaling: 5h 45mins

Highlight of the day: Our lunch stop

Lowlight of the day: The wind!

County count: 9 (Shropshire & Staffordshire added to the list)
