We were awake long before the alarms – not much sleep had been had by either of us probably due to a mixture of nerves/excitement and anticipation for the challenge/adventure ahead!
We had packed most of our stuff the night before as we were both working from home for the morning. At 11:45am we locked up the house and left with just ourselves, our bikes and our bike bags, which felt strange! We got the 11:53 train from Ash.

We changed at Reading and then another change at Exeter. Our middle train from Reading to Exeter was so busy with it being the start of the bank holiday weekend – we stood all the way (2 hours) squished in between carriages with our bikes.

The next train from Exeter to Penzance we were able to get seats and the views along the journey were beautiful!

7 hours after we set off we arrived in Penzance. We had met another couple on the train who were also doing LEJOG over the same time period but a different route.

We left the station and started our 20km cycle to our accommodation in Sennen. We were surprised with an absolute beast of a hill within 3km of the station before our legs had warmed up at all. But the rest of the ride was lovely, with the sun out and setting and beautiful views. The bikes are definitely feeling heavier than we’re used to with all our stuff on them!

Harry may have cycled into a bush while trying to take this photo.

We arrived at our accommodation (The Saddle and Stablerooms) at about 8pm, settled in and ate our dinner that we had brought with us in the sun outside as it set.

Early night before the big start tomorrow!
