Onto the relaxing part

Tuesday 12th September

Yesterday evening we had stayed at a hotel right by the airport in Jo’burg, so we woke up there to our alarm going off at 5:15am. We got ready, packed up and went down for a very early breakfast before getting the shuttle to the airport for our flight with Safairs at 9am. Our flight was 4 hours to Mauritius and a good flight (despite being sat in row 31 – ha!). When we arrived in Mauritius, we picked up our bags and hire car and drove just over an hour to our hotel right in the North West of the island – called Trou aux Biches (a Beachcomber hotel). We were feeling on a bit of a down after the most incredible week of our lives on safari, but when we arrived at the hotel it straight away lifted our spirits and we knew we were going to like it here – it looked beautiful!

We went into the reception area where we were both greatest with drinks and to check in and be congratulated for our honeymoon.

We were then taken on a buggy with our luggage to our room to be shown around it. Wow it was amazing!

Our decking area

We even had our own private little pool and loungers…

Our room was right opposite the beach and the sun was going down so we decided to wander over to watch the sun set and take a look at the beach. It was beautiful…

As it started to get dark, we went back to our room to unpack before dinner. Tonight we didn’t have a restaurant booked so we were just eating in the buffet.

The buffet restaurant

The buffet was crazy, I have never seen so many food stations…

And the shell fish! …

After dinner, we explored around the main part of the hotel a bit. It was all beautifully lit up in the evening.

It had been a long day of travelling so we were quite tired so headed back for an early night.

Wednesday 13th September

We had turned our alarms off to have our first lie in beyond 5:15am in a week! Sods law I couldn’t sleep in because my body clock had got used to getting up early and was also getting used to the time difference, so I sat out on our balcony for a couple of hours while Harry lay in. When Harry woke up we decided to go for a little run along the sea front before breakfast. It was beautiful and nice and quiet.

We had a post run dip in our pool and then got changed and went to the buffet for breakfast – we sat by the pool front to eat it. Again, there was so much choice and!

We decided to wander round the hotel grounds to find our way around a bit and see where everything was as it’s huge – the biggest hotel on the island. We then relaxed on the beach sunbathing and dipping in the sea for a couple of hours.

Some dark clouds started coming over so we decided to go and get some lunch. We went to La Caravelle restaurant and just as we did there was a rain shower – good timing!

After a light lunch we went back to our room to chill out for a bit before playing a “friendly” game of table tennis.

We then headed over to the spa as we were booked in for our couples honeymoon experience. We relaxed by the spa pool for a bit and then used the steam room and sauna.

We were then called for our couples massage – Harry had back, legs and feet and I had face, head, shoulders, arms and hands. Apart from almost bursting out laughing when Harry had to tell the woman to stop twice when she was massaging his feet because they were too ticklish – it was so relaxing!

Post spa, we went back to the room to change and then headed to dinner at La Caravelle restaurant. It was a really lovely 3 course meal – one of the best parts was the passion fruit mojito cheesecake for dessert!

Thursday 14th September

We went for an early-ish breakfast at La Caravelle restaurant as this morning we were going to play golf as Harry’s birthday prezzie from me. The view from breakfast was lovely and some little birdies decided to try their luck to see what they could find for their breakfast.

Post breakfast we collected the golf clubs that Harry was renting from the hotel and drove over to the golf club – it looked very nice. Harry played 18 holes and I caddied for him.

The views across the course were beautiful and he seemed to really enjoy it, up until about hole 14…

After the golf, we had some lunch in the club house.

We then headed back to our hotel and relaxed by our pool, watching the little birdies fly down for a cooling bath in our pool. I think I’m a bit of a closet twitcher (take after my dad!)… I’ve really enjoyed watching and identifying all the new species of birds that I have seen on this trip.

We went to get an ice-cream and walked along the beach.

In the evening we first went for a drink at the bar before dinner.

We then went for dinner – we were booked into the hotel’s Indian restaurant. The food was delicious and there was a man playing a Sitar.
